I will be setting up a photobooth at Bearracuda this Saturday to take iPhone photos.
The photos will have faces smooshed against plexiglass to make it appear like you are trapped in the phone. This ingenious idea was was Fred-the-Plummer’s, pictured below.

Bearracuda is a party for Fun, Friendly, Furry guys held every 1st & 3rd Saturday at Deco Lounge on Larkin St. in San Francisco. This week’s DJs are DJ Underdog and Matt Consola. Link.
Hollywood has come to the Castro as Gus Van Sant has actually started filming “Milk”, a movie about the life of Harvey Milk, San Francisco’s first openly gay elected official. The neighborhood’s in a state of excited anticipation. For those with no day jobs (myself included), you might even catch of a glimpse of Sean Penn arm-in-arm with James Franco with the occasional screen kiss.

Sean’s butt in 70’s jeans
Yesterday they were filming a rally at the Muni Station. The Castro muni station has been boarded up because all of Market streetwas a construction site when the subway was being built in the 70’s.
And here’s a shot of a sleepy James Franco yawning between shots. Today I felt like the papparazzi. Around the filming there are always people politely asking you not to take photos. So hiding in the window of Hot Cookie… ahem.. I mean Double Rainbow… is necessary now and then to get a good shot. As Muni winds its way through the city, it carries the collective experience of everyone on board with it, and weaves threads of life into the fabric of the streets.

Rainy nights, when a building’s lights can illuminate broad strokes of color across the pavement. People walk a little faster than usual to get out of the rain. Umbrellas pop open everywhere and catch the light.

Several months ago I had the pleasure of photographing Mike and Mark for a Bearracuda poster. Their obvious physical affection for each other made my job easy. They’ve been used many times since for underwear nights. I still don’t think he gave me back my yellow undies.

Nothing exists until or unless it is observed. An artist is making something exist by observing it. And his hope for other people is that they will also make it exist by observing it. I call it “creative observation.” Creative viewing. -William S. Burroughs
